By the dawn’s early light - an ethereal view of Ludlow, with St Laurence’s Church rising above the mist.

Dawn breaks over beautiful Ludlow

At 135 ft the church's tower dominates the town, and the chiming of its bells has been a part of everyday life since the early 17th century.

The bells play a different tune for each day of the week, and are mentioned by A E Housman in A Shropshire Lad.

On the horizon is the unmistakeable outline of Titterstone Clee, which is about five miles away as the crow flies.

I never take these scenes for granted, but as I stood on Whitcliffe Common and drank it all in, I was reminded yet again why I love the job I do.
