A golden morning - sunshine and shadows pick out the walls of Moreton Corbet Castle just after sunrise.

Field of gold at Moreton Corbet Castle

The original fortified house on this site, which lies near Shawbury, was probably built of timber.

It was replaced in stone in about 1200 and then remodelled by the Corbet family in the 16th century.

However, it was abandoned in the 18th century and soon became roofless.

Plans were drawn up in 1796 to build a new house on the site, but the project was never realised and the castle remains a ruin today.

On a personal note, my alarm went off at 5am for this shot so quite civilised for a change.
