Mist over Shropshire

This was my view from Haughmond Hill, near Shrewsbury, on a misty morning when the Shropshire landscape was bathed in an ethereal light.

If you look carefully, you can see the tower of St Lucia’s Church at Upton Magna. This is one of only two churches in the country dedicated to St Lucia, who is also known as St Lucy. 

Not too far from where I was standing is Queen Eleanor’s Bower, a small enclosure where the wife of Henry IV is said to have watched the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403.

That’s one of the things I love about Shropshire - you are only ever a few steps away from our fascinating past!
