Sea of white beneath Titterstone Clee

A flash of white caught my eye as I was driving past the racecourse at Ludlow.

Sea of white beneath Titterstone Clee

It looked like snow, but when I stopped to get a closer look it turned out to be a field of dazzling white poppies.

The flowers have a culinary use and are set to be harvested at the end of August.

In the meantime they are creating a huge amount of interest and have given a great deal pleasure to local residents and visitors alike.

Towering above the field in the background is Titterstone Clee, the third highest summit in Shropshire.
