Glorious morning over north Shropshire

I was able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise over north Shropshire seen from the top of Grinshill Hill, near Shawbury.

Glorious morning over north Shropshire

On the horizon are, from left, Haughmond Hill, the Long Mynd, the Stiperstones and the Brieidden Hills.

Grinshill rises to 192 metres above sea level, and its Triassic sandstone has been quarried for centuries.

Today, Grinshill stone can be found in buildings ranging from Wroxeter Roman City to Shrewsbury railway station.

Interestingly, it was also used to make the lintels and door surround at Number 10 Downing Street.

Beneath the hill's wooded escarpment is the village of Clive, birthplace of the Restoration dramatist William Wycherley.
